About Us

This beautiful, detached home on the road from Bruff to Lough Gur is the home from home that you’ve always wanted. It might be just for a week-end/midweek break from September to Easter or for a week or two (Saturday to Saturday) in the summer but you’ll never forget your stay here. There are four bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are fitted with a double bed and a single bed in each. The largest bedroom has three single beds and the fourth room has a double bed. All contain shelving and wardrobe space. The house is equipped with two kitchens and three bathrooms. If you look at the picture of the house, the part of it which extends beyond the front walls has a games room at ground level; there s a card table, and full size pool table and a table football game.

The two living rooms makes this an ideal home for a group of people or a large family or even two families travelling together; on average the house would comfortable accommodate six to ten  people. A DVD player and television are provided in one of the lounges. One of the living rooms has an open fire and the other one has a solid fuel stove. Gas central heating is installed throughout the rest of the house and at the moment the Games room has oil filled radiators and an electric stove.

The main kitchen has an electric oven, fridge, dish washer and washing machine.  It has a lovely dining alcove suitable for eight people (but 10 can fit if need be.) There is a traditional dresser filled with blue and white delft.
The second kitchen has an electric cooker and the utility room adjoining it has a large upright freezer and a second washing machine. There is a smaller table and dining chairs.

The walls are hung with pictures; there are ornaments, table lamps and all the other comforts of home. None of the usual "sterility" associated with the standard self catering rental.

A starter Welcome pack containing some of life necessities such as coal, wood, firelighters, sugar, tea & coffee is provided. Towels, all linen and toilet rolls are also included.

The south facing front of the house has cotoneasters on the wall, green in summer and covered in berries in winter.
At the rear, there is decking with patio furniture and a nice garden. There is a slide for children and plenty of room for play.

Within easy reach of the cottage are the shores of Lough Gur. There’s good walking around the lake, a castle, a Stone Age settlement and a heritage centre. There’s coarse fishing on the lake for which there is no need for a licence and canoeing. Loch Gur is a bird sanctuary and for the experienced ornithologist there are many specimens to observe and lots of information available for the uninitiated.

The local town of Bruff , which is three miles away ,has all amenities, church, shops, bars & restaurants. The cottage is 20mins from Limerick city with its shops, restaurants and many music venues and concert hall.

Other activities available include hill walking, horse-riding and the opportunity to attend Gaelic football or hurling matches.

Gilligan’s Cottage is an ideal base to use for touring the south-west of Ireland
